inert gas fire suppression engineering

Product Description

The IG55 piping network is a critical engineering component of the inert gas fire suppression system, delivering IG55 blended gas (50% nitrogen + 50% argon) from the cylinder bank to each discharge point within the protected zone via high-pressure seamless pipelines. This system supports multi-zone combined distribution control, making it suitable for commercial buildings and industrial facilities requiring centralized gas supply and zoned fire protection.

Product Overview

IG55 is a blend of nitrogen and argon in equal proportions, classified as a naturally occurring inert gas. Its fire extinguishing mechanism works by reducing oxygen concentration below 15% to achieve smothering. With both ODP and GWP at zero, IG55 is internationally recognized as a green and environmentally friendly fire extinguishing agent. The IG55 piping network delivers the agent at a constant low pressure to the target areas, achieving transmission distances of up to 200 meters. This effectively resolves the engineering challenge of locating the cylinder room far from the protected zones. The piping network consists of manifolds, selector valves, check valves, pressure reducing devices, and high-pressure pipelines, forming a complete delivery path from cylinder to nozzle – the vital "artery" of the gas fire suppression system.

Suitable Project Types

The IG55 piping network is well-suited for the following project types and building categories:

  • Large Commercial Complexes – Unified fire protection for multiple floors and electrical rooms with a single system covering different fire compartments

  • High-Rise Office Buildings – Centralized gas suppression for electrical rooms, UPS rooms, and network closets on standard floors; cylinder room can be located on the equipment floor

  • Campus-Scale Data Centers – Cluster protection for multiple modular server rooms with centralized gas supply and zoned discharge through the piping network

  • Telecommunication Hubs & Base Station Clusters – Multi-point protection for signal buildings, exchanges, and base station rooms with flexible piping distances

  • Airports & Rail Transit – Gas fire protection for terminals, underground stations, and control centers

  • Large Industrial Plants – Combined distribution protection for paint workshops, hazardous material warehouses, and impregnation treatment areas

  • Cultural Heritage Building Complexes – Zoned protection for ancient building clusters and collection repositories; piping routing can be tailored to structural constraints

System Advantages

  • Centralized Management with Independent Zoning – A single piping network connects multiple cylinder banks, with selector valves directing agent specifically to the fire zone. Each zone operates independently, significantly reducing equipment duplication

  • High Building Space Utilization – Cylinders are centrally located in a single storage room, eliminating the need for separate cylinder placement in each zone and freeing up valuable floor area

  • Long-Distance Transmission Capability – High-pressure seamless steel piping with pressure reducing devices maintains constant discharge pressure up to 200 meters, offering flexible cylinder room positioning

  • Standardized Engineering Installation – Pipe bracket spacing follows code requirements; pipes are galvanized inside and out for corrosion protection; wall and floor penetrations are sleeved – ensuring controllable and verifiable installation quality

  • Convenient Centralized Maintenance – All cylinders are located in one place, making daily inspections, pressure monitoring, and periodic maintenance significantly more efficient than distributed configurations

  • Minimal Discharge Impact – Constant 6MPa low-pressure discharge reduces impact on the piping system and building structure, with significantly lower vibration and noise

  • Zero Residue & Non-Corrosive – IG55 leaves no solid or liquid residue after discharge, with no corrosion to pipe interiors, enabling immediate reuse without special cleaning

  • Strong Scalability – The piping network features flexible interface预留 for future expansion; additional zones can be added as branches without replacing the entire system

Core Component Functions

Component Function
Manifold Collects agent from multiple cylinders and equalizes output pressure
Selector Valve Directs agent to specific fire zones, enabling combined distribution
Pressure Reducing Device Steps down storage pressure (20MPa/30MPa) to constant discharge pressure (6MPa)
Check Valve Prevents pressure backflow between cylinders, ensuring stable discharge
Pilot Line Delivers actuating nitrogen to each container valve for synchronized opening
Main Supply Pipe Trunk pipeline from cylinder room to protected zones, carrying agent over long distances
Zone Branch Pipe Branches from the main pipe to nozzles in each protected zone, sized as required
Flexible Hose Absorbs vibration during cylinder discharge to prevent rigid connection damage

Installation Key Points

  • All pipes are seamless steel with internal and external galvanized anti-corrosion treatment

  • Main pipes with DN≥50 have anti-sway brackets installed in both vertical and horizontal directions

  • Protective sleeves are provided where pipes pass through walls or floors

  • Bracket-to-nozzle distance ≤300mm ensures secure nozzle fixation

  • Hydrostatic and leak tests are performed after pipe installation

  • Pipe exteriors are coated in red fire-resistant paint for easy identification and maintenance
